The Center for Human Progress is a think-and-do tank combining cultural evolution and economics. We work on the human side of progress that often prevents good ideas from working.

Cookie Policy

Last updated: 23 October 2026

This website is shared by Center for Human Progress (US) Inc. and Centre for Human Progress ("we", "us"). This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies we use. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data.

What cookies are

Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. Similar technologies, such as your browser's local storage, work in the same way, and this policy covers them too.

The cookies we use

cookie-consent (local storage)

  • Set by: us.
  • What it does: remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don't ask on every page.
  • How long it lasts: until you clear your browser's data for this site.
  • Your choice: always on, because the site needs it.

branding_locale

  • Set by: us.
  • What it does: records whether to show US or UK spelling, based on your approximate location.
  • How long it lasts: 1 year.
  • Your choice: on unless you switch it off in Cookie settings.

_ga

  • Set by: Google Analytics.
  • What it does: tells visitors apart with a random identifier, so we can count visits.
  • How long it lasts: 2 years.
  • Your choice: only if you accept analytics.

_ga_ST8B00N2VR

  • Set by: Google Analytics.
  • What it does: keeps track of your visit.
  • How long it lasts: 2 years.
  • Your choice: only if you accept analytics.

We set the spelling cookie without asking first, because it only changes how the site looks. You can switch it off in Cookie settings, and the site will then show US spelling.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics cookies stay off until you click "Accept analytics". Google processes the data on our behalf and does not store IP addresses. You can read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Changing your choice

Use "Cookie settings" on any page to accept or reject analytics, or to switch off the spelling cookie. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari. (Link each browser name to its help page, as on the current Cookie Policy.) Google also offers a browser add-on that stops Google Analytics on every site: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Other websites

Sites we link to, including those of our partners and affiliates, set their own cookies under their own policies.
