The Center for Human Progress is a think-and-do tank combining cultural evolution and economics. We work on the human side of progress that often prevents good ideas from working.

Funders

The Center for Human Progress is made possible through the support of philanthropic funders and institutional partners who believe that progress depends on better institutions, incentives, and norms. We are especially grateful to early supporters who have backed the Center at a formative stage. Their support enables the development of new ideas, research, and real-world initiatives aimed at advancing long-term human progress. Our funders share a commitment to systems-level impact—supporting work that connects research, institutional innovation, and policy implementation. Emergent Ventures provided seed support for the Center's founding.

Economist, Mercatus Center, George Mason University

The Center for Human Progress received early support through Emergent Ventures, a grant and fellowship program led by economist Tyler Cowen at the Mercatus Center. Emergent Ventures supports individuals and projects pursuing ambitious, high-impact ideas across science, technology, and public policy. The program has funded a wide range of early-stage initiatives aimed at accelerating innovation, expanding knowledge, and improving institutions. This support helped launch the Center’s early research and development, enabling work on initiatives such as institutional innovation, global policy learning, and new approaches to measuring human progress.

Why early support matters

Early-stage philanthropic support plays a critical role in enabling new ideas to develop before traditional funding structures emerge. It allows researchers and institutions to explore high-risk, high-reward approaches to some of the most important challenges facing societies today.
